Money and coverage
Ask the plan a precise coverage question
“Covered” can leave important parts of the answer missing. Ask what the plan still needs and what you would pay.
Name the medicine and the reason for care
Use the exact product name when asking the plan a coverage question. Ask what information it needs from the clinician.
- Is the named medicine included in my plan?
- Does the reason for treatment change the answer?
- Is an approval step needed before a prescription is filled?
- Which pharmacy can fill it under this plan?
- What amount would be my share?
Translate the plan’s terms
- Formulary
Formulary is the term insurers use for a plan’s medicine list.
- Prior authorization
Prior authorization is an insurer’s review before it agrees to pay.
Ask which step the answer refers to: a listed medicine, a pending review, or the amount you will owe.
Request a written reply. Keep the name of the person you spoke with in your own notes.
Ask about help without assuming it applies
As of September 2026, the maker says some privately insured patients may qualify for help with their share of the medicine cost.
Government insurance includes plans such as Medicare and Medicaid.
For government insurance, the maker’s support page offers cost information without promising payment for tesamorelin.
Ask the maker’s patient support program what help it can offer for your plan. Ask your insurer what it will pay.
- What are the full assistance terms?
- Which costs does the help apply to?
- Does a change in my insurance change eligibility?
